Meetings with Fishermen
The Committee Chief Executive Mike Hardy, Chief
Fishery Officer (Operations) Al Browne and Environmental Fishery
Officer Jon Green held a series of meetings in March with shellfish
permit holders in the district to give an update on the work of
the committee, including the transition to Inshore Fisheries and
Conservation Authority status. In total over 40 fishermen attended
these meetings which were held in the evening at Tynemouth, Amble
and Seahouses, when there were also questions from the floor. The
Committee plans to hold similar meetings in the future.
Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority
The work of the Committee is well under way for the process of
transition to IFCAs with the IFCA due to replace the SFC on 1 April
2011. Amongst the topics currently being dealt with are the preparation
of Memoranda of Understanding with the Marine Management Organisation,
Environment Agency, Natural England and CEFAS and the consultation
from Defra on IFCA districts. Further information is available from

Recent Prosecution
On 16 April 2010 at North Tyneside Magistrates Court Neil Parker
of Newbiggin by the Sea pleaded guilty to landing 20 undersized
lobsters and he was ordered to pay a fine and costs in the total
sum of £520.
