Definition Of Estuary Limits

Tyne

The Northumberland IFCA district within the Tyne will run on the northern half of the Tyne from the mouth of the Tyne up to and including the North Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council boundary, which extends to the midpoint of the estuary.

Tweed

Northumberland IFCA jurisdiction within the Tweed will be those parts of the estuary which fall within the Northumberland County Council boundary, from the mouth of the estuary to the normal tidal limit (NTL).

All other estuaries reach their normal tidal limit within the landward boundaries of the Northumberland IFCA district and are therefore wholly within its jurisdiction. Therefore there is no need to set NIFCA district limits below the normal tidal limit for these estuaries.
